Moore described the play as a fluke — no one collided, no one fell on him — which is exactly the kind of non-contact sequence that tends to precede the worst-case diagnosis.
If the MRI confirms a torn ACL, Bresee lands on injured reserve and his 2026 is done. That's a real loss for a 2023 first-round pick who's produced 86 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks and two forced fumbles across 49 career games, and who started all 15 games he suited up for in 2025. The Saints thought enough of him to pick up his fifth-year option this offseason, so he's locked in through next season regardless of how this plays out.
Moore framed the situation as the harsh math of the NFL — one player goes down, another gets his shot. He said the Saints will lean on the guys behind Bresee and expect them to take a step forward if he's out for an extended stretch.
Who Fills the Snaps
