Bryce Young Leads the NFL in Passing Yards — Is It Real for Fantasy?
SELL HIGH
Bryce Young

QB20 value is peaking against soft defenses before a tougher slate.

Key numbers
  • 329 yards, 2 TD in SNF win over Lions
  • Leads NFL in passing yards and first downs
  • 91 PPR points through 4 games (2026), QB20
  • Panthers line allows pressure at 46.3%
  • Eagles up next in Week 6 after the bye

Two years ago Bryce Young was holding a clipboard behind Andy Dalton, his future as an NFL starter genuinely in doubt. Sunday night he had a Charlotte crowd chanting "MVP" while he carved up Detroit for 329 yards and two touchdowns in a 32-26 win. That's a hard turn in anybody's book.

The numbers back the hype. Young currently leads the entire NFL in passing yards and passing first downs, sits tied for third in touchdowns, and ranks seventh in yards per attempt. For fantasy, he's posted 1,268 yards, nine TDs and just two picks through four games (2026), good for 91 PPR points and a QB20 finish on our rankings so far. Not bad for a guy who was a healthy scratch not long ago.

What makes it more impressive: he's doing it shorthanded. Carolina played Sunday without its No. 2 and No. 3 receivers, Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette, and rookie deep threat Chris Brazzell is already done for the year. The offensive line is a MASH unit too, surrendering pressure at a 46.3% clip — second-worst in the league behind only Justin Herbert's Chargers.

What's Actually Clicking

New play-caller Brad Idzik has leaned into an aggressive, pass-heavy identity that nobody expected. The Panthers lead the NFL in pass rate over expected, and Young's deep-ball and explosive-play rates have spiked to career highs. He's also running play action on 31.5% of dropbacks, the most of his career, averaging 8.1 yards per attempt on those throws. The traits that made him a Heisman winner — timing, reads, processing — are finally translating. He ranks third in EPA per dropback on quick-game throws.

Then there's the composure. Young has just two interceptions and a 1.2% turnover-worthy throw rate, sixth-lowest in the league. He's hitting first reads with conviction, and when a play breaks down, it's no longer the five-alarm disaster it used to be. That John Metchie III dart against a disguised coverage was a snapshot of the whole season.

The Catch

Before you crown him, read the schedule. Young built this line against the Bears, Falcons, Browns and Lions — not exactly a wall of elite secondaries. And in the one tough matchup, Cleveland's press-heavy defense, he struggled with accuracy, took three sacks and couldn't generate explosives. The Panthers rank 26th in PFF pass-blocking, Young has absorbed 49 quick pressures (six more than anyone), and the Eagles loom in Week 6 after the bye.

Fantasy verdict: sell high if you can. Young's QB20 price tag and recent box scores give him real trade value right now, and the ratio of production to schedule difficulty is only going one direction. If you're holding him as a streamer, ride the Eagles matchup decision week to week — but don't bank on top-10 QB output surviving a line this leaky against better defenses.
