Trey Lance and Trevor Penning hit injured reserve as L.A. activates two and signs wideout Theo Wease ahead of the Broncos game.

Chargers Shuffle the Roster vs. Broncos: Lance Lands on IR
DROP
Trey Lance

Backup QB now on IR with zero standalone fantasy value.

Key numbers
  • Lance placed on IR, out after 4 games played
  • Lance's 2025 line: 226 pass yds, 0 TD, 1 INT
  • Matlock, Taylor activated off IR after 4 weeks
  • WR Theo Wease signed to active roster
  • Brunskill, Waxter elevated for game vs. Broncos

The Chargers reworked their roster ahead of the Broncos matchup, and the headline move for fantasy purposes is backup quarterback Trey Lance landing on injured reserve. Lance appeared in four games this season and managed 226 passing yards with no touchdowns and one interception, adding 85 rushing yards — good for just 16 PPR points across the stretch (2025, actual).

Guard Trevor Penning joins Lance on IR in the same wave of transactions. To fill out the roster, Los Angeles activated fullback Scott Matlock and offensive lineman Branson Taylor, both of whom had spent the first four weeks on IR. The team also signed wideout Theo Wease to the active roster, using a spot freed up when left tackle Rashawn Slater was placed on IR earlier in the week.

The Depth Chart Dominoes

The offensive line is clearly the pressure point here. With Slater and Penning both sidelined, the Chargers elevated tackle Daniel Brunskill — along with cornerback Isas Waxter — for the game, the first of two permitted elevations for each. That's a lot of churn up front, and it's the kind of thing that quietly drags down a quarterback's clean-pocket rate and a running back's rushing lanes.

Matlock's return matters more for blocking and short-yardage work than box scores, so don't read it as a fantasy windfall. Taylor's activation is strictly a trenches story. The real name to file away is Wease: a freshly signed receiver on a team thin at tackle isn't a Week-1 add, but injuries have a way of opening target share faster than anyone expects.

The Fantasy Fallout

Lance was never a reality in standard leagues, so his IR stint doesn't change much — if he's somehow still on your roster or watchlist, cut him loose. Wease is a deep-league stash at best; monitor the snap counts before spending real FAAB. The bigger takeaway is the shaky offensive line, which should make you slightly more cautious with any Chargers skill players facing Denver's front this week.
