Chris Brooks Misses Two Days With Ankle Injury, Packers Add Pierre Strong

Brooks has sat out both practices this week, and Green Bay promoted Pierre Strong to a backfield that still has no clear fantasy winner.

MarShawn Lloyd

Pass-game role gives him the only real fantasy pulse in this committee.

Key numbers
  • Brooks missed both Wed/Thu practices with ankle injury
  • Packers promoted Pierre Strong from practice squad
  • Brooks: 70 rush yds, 12 PPR pts in 4 games (2026)
  • Lloyd leads the group with 26 PPR pts (2026)
  • Guards Banks (knee/toe) and Monk (quad) also absent

Chris Brooks hasn't practiced all week. The Packers running back sat out both Wednesday and Thursday with an ankle injury, and Green Bay responded by signing Pierre Strong off the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Strong now joins Kaleb Johnson and MarShawn Lloyd in a backfield that's already looked like a crowded, low-ceiling mess for fantasy purposes.

The numbers tell you why nobody's getting excited here. Through four games this season (2026), Brooks has 70 rushing yards, no touchdowns, and three catches for 24 yards — good for just 12 PPR points. He sits at RB78 and #344 overall in our rankings. That's not a player you were leaning on anyway, which softens the blow of the ankle issue considerably.

A Backfield Without a Bellcow

If Brooks misses time, the touches don't exactly funnel to a league-winner. Kaleb Johnson has 80 rushing yards on the season (2026) and all of 8 PPR points — he's RB94 in our rankings. Strong is a fresh promotion with no defined role yet. The one back worth a second look is MarShawn Lloyd, who leads the group with 26 PPR points through four games (2026), largely because he's actually involved in the passing game: nine catches for 49 yards and a touchdown.

The rest of the Green Bay injury report is an offensive-line concern more than a skill-position one. Guards Aaron Banks (knee, toe) and Jacob Monk (quad) both missed practice, while Jager Burton (back) returned as a limited participant after sitting Wednesday. A patchwork front doesn't help whoever ends up carrying the ball.

Fantasy Fallout

Also worth monitoring: wideout Savion Williams was limited with an ankle issue. He's our WR25 (#56 overall) and posted 26 PPR points across 12 games last season (2025), so his status matters a lot more than anyone in this running back rotation.

The move for fantasy managers is simple. Brooks wasn't startable, so his absence doesn't change your lineup — leave him on waivers in all but the deepest leagues. Don't rush to add Strong until he earns real snaps. If you're hunting a dart throw from this backfield, Lloyd is the only one with a pulse thanks to his receiving work, but treat him as a WATCH, not a confident start, until Green Bay gives someone a real workload.
