Cowboys TE Princeton Fant Carted Off With Knee Injury, MRI Looms
Fant, a special-teamer with 11 games across three seasons, needed a cart after a knee-to-knee hit at Dallas' first padded practice.

Dallas got the worst possible reminder of what padded practices can do. Tight end Princeton Fant was carted off during the Cowboys' first padded session of training camp after taking a knee-to-knee hit, and he's now scheduled for an MRI to determine the damage to his left knee. He couldn't put any weight on the leg, which is rarely a good sign this early in camp.
The play itself was a chain reaction: Fant got blocked backward into running back Israel Abanikanda before the collision. Fant joined Dallas as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee in 2023 and has logged just 11 games over three seasons, working almost exclusively on special teams. So the roster impact is real, but the fantasy impact is close to zero.
For anyone panicking about their tight end room, take a breath. Fant was never on a fantasy radar, and the guy who matters at this position for Dallas wasn't anywhere near this play.
What It Means For Ferguson
Jake Ferguson is the Cowboys' TE1 and it isn't close. He finished 2025 as our TE6 (overall #75) on the back of 82 catches for 600 yards and eight touchdowns — a hefty 186 PPR points (actual). Fant getting hurt doesn't add a single target to anyone's projection because he wasn't taking targets to begin with. Ferguson's role is locked regardless.
The one wrinkle worth noting is Ferguson's form: he averaged 5.7 fantasy points below his season number over his final five games in 2025. That's a trend to monitor, but it has nothing to do with today's news and everything to do with usage down the stretch.
Behind Ferguson, Luke Schoonmaker (14 rec, 132 yds, 27 PPR pts in 2025) and Brevyn Spann-Ford (9 rec, 90 yds, 1 TD, 24 PPR pts in 2025) round out the depth chart. Neither is a draftable fantasy asset, and Fant sat below both on the pecking order anyway.
The verdict: keep holding Ferguson exactly where you had him. This injury changes his outlook not at all — he remains a solid mid-tier TE1 with an established target share. If you're in a deep dynasty or 32-team format and were somehow rostering Fant, you can move on. Everyone else, carry on drafting.
