D.J. Moore ruled out with shoulder injury, stinger in Bills' home opener

Moore fell hard in the end zone in the second quarter and never returned. He'd gone catchless before exiting — a rough follow-up to his 100-yard Bills debut.

No timeline yet — his Week 3 status hinges on X-ray and stinger results.

Key numbers
  • Ruled out in Q2 vs. Lions with shoulder injury, stinger
  • 0 catches before exiting Thursday night
  • 5 rec, 100 yds in Week 1 Bills debut vs. Texans
  • 170 PPR points across 17 games in 2025
  • Our WR33, No. 94 overall entering the year

The only sour note in an otherwise dominant Bills first half Thursday night was D.J. Moore going down. The receiver was ruled out with a shoulder injury and a stinger after falling hard in the back of Detroit's end zone during the second quarter. He walked to the locker room for X-rays and didn't return.

Moore hadn't recorded a catch before exiting, so there's no salvaging the box score for anyone who rostered him. Buffalo, meanwhile, was busy scoring touchdowns on each of its first four drives and led 27-10 at the break. The offense clearly doesn't need him to hum — which cuts both ways for his fantasy value.

This is a tough turn after a promising start. In Week 1, Moore hauled in five passes for 100 yards in a 36-31 win at Houston, his first game since being traded from Chicago this offseason. The 29-year-old carries pedigree — four 1,100-yard seasons from 2019-23 with Carolina, plus a career-high 1,364 yards and eight scores in 2023.

The Fantasy Fallout

Here's the problem for managers. We had Moore ranked WR33 (No. 94 overall) coming in, and he posted just 170 PPR points across 17 games last season (2025) — solid, not elite, WR3 territory. Losing him mid-game means a zero this week and real uncertainty for Week 3, since the severity of the shoulder and stinger won't be clear until the imaging results come back.

The silver lining is that Buffalo's offense is scoring in bunches without him, which keeps whoever steps up in decent target-share range. But that same firepower is why Moore was never a locked-in weekly starter to begin with — the volume is spread around.

For now, treat this as a wait-and-see. If you have a bench spot, hold Moore through the injury update rather than panic-dropping a proven producer. If you're thin at flex and need a body for Week 3, start scanning the waiver wire for the next Bills pass-catcher in line. Don't make any moves until we get official word on the shoulder.
