The Giants promoted quarterback Jake Haener to the active roster ahead of Sunday's Week 3 tilt with the Titans, giving them a warm body behind Jameis Winston. The 27-year-old Fresno State product will serve strictly as the QB2, so before anyone gets creative with a deep-league dart throw: this is a depth move, not a fantasy event.
Haener's résumé is thin. A fourth-round pick by the Saints in 2023, he's played eight NFL games with a single start, completing 18-of-39 passes for 226 yards, one touchdown and one interception across the 2024 season. His loudest moment in a Giants uniform came in the preseason, when he went 6-of-7 for 101 yards and a score against the Jets — nice, but exhibition football doesn't move rankings.
The name that actually matters here is Winston. He's the guy under center, and through three games this season (2025) he's put up 567 passing yards, two touchdowns and two picks, plus a rushing touchdown and even a receiving score for good measure. That adds up to 45 PPR points on the year — serviceable streaming volume, not a set-and-forget QB1.
There's a wrinkle, though. Our form tracker has Winston running 3.5 fantasy points below his season average over his last five games (2025). Signing a backup doesn't threaten his job, but the trend line is the thing to watch if you're leaning on him in a bye-week pinch.
The other roster shuffle: the Giants elevated wideout Braxton Berrios and linebacker Malik Harrison from the practice squad for Sunday. Berrios has managed just six catches for 37 yards through four games this season (2025) — 10 PPR points, unranked, and not something you're rostering outside the deepest formats. He's a return-game and depth piece more than a target hog.
Bottom line for managers: Haener is a clean sit — he's a clipboard-holder with 39 career attempts. Keep Winston active if you need the streaming floor, but temper expectations given the recent dip, and don't bother chasing Berrios unless your bench is on fire and you're desperate for warm bodies.
