Giants Sign Journeyman S JT Woods to Bolster Secondary Depth

The Giants have agreed to terms with safety JT Woods, adding another body to the back end of their secondary. Woods arrives in New York as a well-traveled reclamation project — the former 2022 third-round pick has now been attached to seven different NFL organizations since the Chargers spent that Day 2 selection on him.

The production hasn't matched the draft capital. As a rookie in Los Angeles, Woods appeared in 10 games with a single start, logging just three tackles across 31 defensive snaps. His real work came on special teams, where he played 73 snaps — a hint at how the Giants likely view him too.

Since that debut season, Woods has bounced through the Eagles, Bears, Seahawks, Raiders and Jets without carving out a defined role anywhere. That's a lot of practice squads and short stints for a player still trying to prove he belongs on a 53-man roster.

The Fantasy Fallout

For fantasy purposes — even in the deepest IDP formats — this is a non-event. Woods hasn't earned meaningful defensive snaps in years, and signing with a Giants secondary that already has established starters ahead of him doesn't change that math. He profiles as camp competition and a special-teams contributor, not a stat producer.

The only path to relevance is injury luck combined with a strong summer, and even then he'd be a matchup dart at best. There's no historical tackle volume here to bet on, and nothing in his résumé suggests a breakout at age-adjusted this point in his career.

Bottom line: leave Woods on the waiver wire and forget the transaction happened. If he somehow forces his way into a defensive package during the season, revisit — but for now, this is a depth move with zero roster implications for your fantasy team.
