Ja'Marr Chase

Concussion protocol is a week-to-week wait, but he's undroppable.

Key numbers
  • Ruled out at halftime vs. Jaguars (Oct 4)
  • 3 catches, 3 targets, 26 yds before exit
  • 18 rec, 185 yds, 3 TD through 3 games (2026)
  • Our WR4, No. 17 overall entering Week 5
  • Jones flagged for facemask; Miller not penalized

Ja'Marr Chase went down in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Jaguars and didn't come back. Initially ruled questionable, the Bengals upgraded that to out at halftime after Chase entered concussion protocol — the result of a play where Jarrian Jones twisted his facemask before Ventrell Miller delivered a hard hit. Jones drew a flag. Miller, somehow, did not, despite leading with the crown of his helmet.

Chase stayed down for a while before walking off under his own power, ducking into the blue medical tent and then the locker room with a towel over his head. He'd caught all three of his targets for 26 yards before the injury, a quiet start by his standards. Cincinnati trailed 13-3 at the break.

What He Was Producing

This is the Bengals' best player and one of fantasy's best assets. Chase racked up 18 catches for 185 yards and three touchdowns across the first three games of the 2026 season — 55 PPR points — and he'd just gone 9-for-12 for 98 yards and a score in last week's 30-27 loss to the Steelers. A Pro Bowler in each of his first six NFL seasons, he sits as our WR4 and No. 17 player overall heading into Week 5.

The ripple effects aren't fun either. Kicker Evan McPherson, our PK17 and No. 169 overall, nailed a game-tying field goal on the drive Chase got hurt, but his value is tied to an offense that loses a ton of its ceiling without Chase on the field. McPherson's been running cold anyway — his last five games sit 10.7 fantasy points below his 2026 season average.

The Fantasy Fallout

Concussion protocol is its own animal. There's no setting a timeline from the outside — Chase has to clear the independent evaluations before he suits up again, and that process can take days or stretch past a week. The honest read is that his Week 5 status is genuinely up in the air.

Nobody is dropping a top-five wideout over one concussion, so hold Chase and monitor the protocol reports closely as the week unfolds. If he's limited or ruled out, have a flex-worthy fill-in ready rather than scrambling Sunday morning. And if you roster McPherson, this is a good week to consider a streaming kicker against a softer defense while Cincinnati's offense sorts itself out.
