Jayden Daniels Out Again: Mariota Faces NFL's Stingiest Defense in Week 3
Daniels' elbow dislocation joins a brutal Week 2 QB wipeout, and Marcus Mariota now draws a Seattle defense that's allowed just 17 points all year.

Backup QB vs. the league's best defense is a fantasy no-go.
- Daniels dislocated his elbow, out for Week 3
- Mariota has lost 6 of his last 7 starts
- Seahawks allowed just 17 points over 2 weeks
- Seattle: lowest points allowed thru 2 games since 2013
- Seattle won 15 of last 16 road games
Week 2 turned into a quarterback bloodbath, and Jayden Daniels was the biggest casualty for fantasy purposes. The Commanders star dislocated his elbow and will miss Week 3, joining Caleb Williams (hamstring) and Jaxson Dart (knee) on a growing list of sidelined signal-callers. Williams looks like the least serious of the trio, while Dart's knee could cost him the entire season.
For Washington, that means Marcus Mariota steps in — and he steps into arguably the worst possible matchup. Mariota has dropped six of his last seven starts, and now he draws a Seattle defense that has surrendered just 17 total points across two games. That's the lowest points-allowed mark through two weeks by any team since 2013.
Why This Matchup Is a Nightmare
The Seahawks aren't just good at home; they're lethal away from Lumen Field, having won 15 of their last 16 road games. Even with Sam Darnold reportedly planning to practice this week, Seattle has been fine either way — Drew Lock filled in admirably, including a three-touchdown showing. Point is, this defense doesn't need a specific quarterback to travel well. Mariota putting up consistent points against them feels like a long shot.
Daniels' absence is the real gut-punch here. When healthy, he raised the entire ceiling of a Washington offense that needed juice. But injuries keep interrupting his story, and this elbow dislocation is the latest chapter. Fantasy managers rostering him should brace for at least a multi-week hole and check the streaming market now, not Sunday morning.
The Fantasy Fallout
There's a downstream effect too. Every Commanders pass-catcher takes a hit with Mariota under center against elite coverage, so temper expectations across the board this week. Caleb Williams managers can breathe a little easier — a hamstring is the softest landing of the three injured QBs, and Williams was excellent last season (2025): 3,942 pass yards, 27 TD and zero interceptions across 17 games for 333 PPR points, our No. 5 quarterback. He's a hold-and-monitor, not a panic-drop.
The Mariota call is simple: sit him and don't bother streaming him. A quarterback who's lost six of seven, facing the stingiest defense in football on the road, is not the answer at any position of need. If you're desperate for a Week 3 starter, look literally anywhere else. As for Daniels — stash him if you have the bench space and wait for a firm timeline before making any drastic roster moves.
