RB1 upside, but his Week 7 availability isn't confirmed yet.

Key numbers
  • Missed first 6 weeks on exempt list since Aug. 30
  • 2025: 929 rush yds, 13 rush TD, 237 PPR pts
  • Our RB1 overall and at the position
  • Last 5 games 2025: -4.5 FPTS vs season avg
  • Week 7 status vs Lions still undetermined

Josh Jacobs is back in the Packers building after missing the first six weeks of the 2026 season on the commissioner's exempt list, where he'd been parked since Aug. 30 while the NFL investigated a May domestic abuse arrest. His removal from the list clears him to play Sunday against the Lions if Green Bay decides he's ready — but that's a big if, and the league stressed its investigation remains ongoing.

For fantasy purposes, this matters enormously. Jacobs finished 2025 as a genuine workhorse: 929 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns across 15 games, plus 36 catches for 282 yards and another score, good for 237 PPR points. That production anchors our model's RB1 ranking, both overall and at the position. The question now is how quickly a guy who's missed real football reps reintegrates into the offense.

What Jacobs and the Packers Are Saying

Jacobs told reporters he's remorseful and apologized for putting the team in this spot, while declining to get into specifics given the active legal situation. He pleaded no contest last month to battery and criminal damage to property, and last week filed a civil suit seeking to restrict access to case evidence, including surveillance footage the Brown County DA has said corroborates the victim's account.

Head coach Matt LaFleur backed his back publicly, saying he believes in second chances and that Jacobs has owned his mistakes. But LaFleur was careful on the football side — he said Jacobs is in a decent spot physically and has been training, but that he's missed the game exposure, so his Sunday availability will be decided over the course of the week.

The Fantasy Fallout

Here's the tension. Jacobs is our RB1, and a healthy, fully-engaged version is a weekly must-start. But he was already trending down before the layoff — his final five games of 2025 came in at 4.5 fantasy points below his season average — and now he's layering six weeks of zero football reps on top of that. Snap counts and workload in his first game back are the real unknowns.

Verdict: this is a WATCH situation, not a blind plug-and-play. If LaFleur declares him active and the Packers signal a normal workload, Jacobs rockets back into your lineup immediately. Until that's confirmed, don't bench a reliable starter to gamble on a guy who might split carries or be eased in. Monitor the Wednesday-through-Saturday reports closely and have a contingency ready.
