Ladd McConkey Opens Week 6 Limited as Chargers' Injuries Pile Up
McConkey practiced on a limited basis to start the week while Derwin James and three others sat out entirely. Here's the fantasy read.

Limited Wednesday beats a DNP — lock him in unless the week trends down.
- McConkey: 12 rec, 183 yds, 1 TD in 4 games (2026)
- Our WR27 and NFL #79 overall this season
- Alt, Jackson, James all DNP Wednesday
- James has missed the past two games
- Lambert-Smith's 21-day IR window is open
The Chargers walked into Week 6 practice looking like a MASH unit, and the one name fantasy managers care most about landed on the right side of the ledger — barely. Ladd McConkey, our WR27 and the No. 79 player in our rankings this season, opened the week limited rather than sidelined entirely. Through four games in 2026 he's posted 12 catches for 183 yards and a touchdown, good for 36 PPR points.
The grimmer news lives on the DNP list. Offensive tackle Joe Alt (neck), cornerback Donte Jackson (hamstring) and safety Derwin James (hamstring) all sat out Wednesday, with Alt, Jackson and James each having already missed the past two games. Guard Kayode Awosika (fibula) was also out and has now missed three straight. That's a lot of bodies for one Wednesday report.
What Limited Actually Means
Limited is the practice designation fantasy managers like to see on a Wednesday. It's a green shoot, not a red flag — the kind of status that usually trends up to full by Friday rather than down to a game-day scratch. McConkey wasn't alone in that tier: Quentin Johnston and Brenen Thompson joined him. Thompson has been a non-factor so far, managing just one catch for 13 yards across two games in 2026.
The Chargers also got a potential reinforcement stirring. KeAndre Lambert-Smith had his 21-day practice window opened now that he's cleared the four-game IR minimum. Lambert-Smith sits at #267 in our rankings (WR100), and his 2025 line — 5 catches, 51 yards, a touchdown across 10 games — tells you he's a depth body, not a lineup fix. His recent form ran 1.6 fantasy points below his season average over his last five games.
There's a timing wrinkle here. The Chargers have a shot at getting several receivers back right before the bye, which raises the obvious question of whether it's worth risking anyone on a short runway. For your purposes, that mostly matters for the fringe names — McConkey's involvement isn't in that calculus.
The fantasy bottom line: keep McConkey in your lineup. A limited Wednesday is nowhere near enough to bench a WR2 who's already producing, so start him and monitor Thursday and Friday for upgrades. Johnston, Thompson and Lambert-Smith are watch-list filler at best — don't burn a roster spot chasing the IR window. Just track the Friday report before you set anything in stone.
