Rib injury and two missed practices make him a game-time gamble.

Key numbers
  • Left Week 1 early with a rib injury
  • Missed Wednesday and Thursday practice
  • Listed questionable for Week 2
  • 789 yds, 6 TD in 2025 (16 games)
  • Our WR27, ranked #79 overall

Ladd McConkey is officially questionable after a rib injury pulled him out of the Chargers' Week 1 loss to the Cardinals. He didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, which is never the kind of buildup you want to see from a guy you drafted as a WR2.

The context matters here too. McConkey is coming off a 66-catch, 789-yard, six-touchdown 2025 campaign across 16 games — good for 181 PPR points and a spot as our WR27 (No. 79 overall). This is a real piece of the Chargers' passing game, not a dart throw, which makes the ribs situation worth tracking right up to kickoff.

He isn't the only Charger banged up. Defensive back Deane Leonard (abdomen) practiced on a limited basis all week and lands in the questionable bucket alongside McConkey. Those are the two names still technically in play.

The ones who won't play are already sorted. Defensive back Elijah Molden (hamstring) and offensive lineman Trey Pipkins (knee) were both ruled out after sitting out practice the entire week. For a team trying to erase an 0-1 start, losing a starting corner and a lineman doesn't help.

The Fantasy Fallout

Rib injuries are tricky because pain tolerance and route-running don't always cooperate. Even if McConkey suits up, there's a real chance his volume gets throttled, and his last-five-games form was already running 3.6 fantasy points below his season average. That's a soft floor when you factor in a compromised body.

If you have the roster flexibility, don't commit to McConkey until you see confirmation he's active and moving well in warmups. Line up a bench WR you can flip in if he sits — this is a classic game-time decision, and gambling on a questionable rib in a Week 2 flex spot is how you leave points on the table. Watch the wire, keep your backup ready.
