Nico Collins' hamstring puts the Texans WR room in crisis mode
A Grade 1 hamstring strain has Collins trending toward inactive, thinning a Houston receiver group already missing two names to just four healthy bodies.

Hamstring strain has him trending toward inactive vs. the Bengals.
- Collins: Grade 1 hamstring strain, missed Thursday practice
- Collins put up 224 PPR pts in 2025 (WR8 in our rank)
- Texans also down Tank Dell and Jayden Higgins
- Just 4 other WRs on the 53-man roster if Collins sits
- Tinsley one of 4 practice-squad WRs eligible for call-up
Nico Collins pulled up in Wednesday's practice with what the Texans are calling a Grade 1 hamstring strain, and the fallout is already ugly. He skipped Thursday's session entirely, and every signal points toward him being inactive when Houston hosts Cincinnati on Sunday. That's a huge subtraction — Collins finished 2025 as our WR8, posting 71 catches for 1,117 yards and six scores across 15 games, good for 224 PPR points.
The bigger problem is the room behind him. Houston is already without Tank Dell and Jayden Higgins, so losing Collins would leave just four healthy receivers on the 53-man roster. That math forces at least one practice-squad call-up on gameday, and possibly two. Suddenly names nobody was tracking in August are live for snaps.
Enter the Tinsley Wildcard
One of those names is Mitchell Tinsley, who signed onto Houston's practice squad after an odd offseason detour. Tinsley made Cincinnati's 53-man roster last year and was reportedly one of the Bengals' toughest final cuts this summer. After clearing waivers, he passed on Cincinnati's practice squad and landed with the Texans instead — a decision that could hand him a Sunday date against his old team.
Don't pencil him in just yet, though. Houston carries three other receivers on the practice squad in Josh Kelly, Daniel Sobkowicz and Lewis Bond, all of whom stuck around through camp and may sit ahead of Tinsley in the call-up pecking order. Tinsley's 2025 line — 8 catches, 116 yards, two TDs, 32 PPR points over 17 games — tells you he's a depth flier, not a plug-and-play answer.
The Fantasy Fallout
For Collins managers, this is a wait-through-Friday situation, but plan to bench him if the injury report doesn't clear him. Hamstring strains are the kind of thing teams don't rush a WR8 back for in Week 3, so line up a replacement now rather than gamble on a Saturday downgrade. There's no upside in starting a guy who might not dress.
As for the pieces around him: Nico's absence funnels targets, but with Dell and Higgins also out, the beneficiaries are murky. Tinsley is a name to stash a mental note on, not a Sunday-morning add in standard leagues — the practice-squad logjam makes even a call-up uncertain. Deep-league and best-ball degenerates can speculate; everyone else should just watch Friday's report and move on.
