Panthers Lose Taylor Moton to IR, Monroe Freeling Back at RT
Moton fractured his fibula in Sunday's blowout loss, just his second game back from a blood-clot scare. Rookie Monroe Freeling slides in.

Rookie RT's pass-pro reps swing Panthers skill-player value.
- Moton to IR Monday with fractured fibula
- Injured in Sunday's blowout loss to Buccaneers
- Only his second game back from NFI list
- Rookie Monroe Freeling takes over at RT
- Nick Hampton signed off practice squad
Carolina placed veteran right tackle Taylor Moton on injured reserve Monday after he fractured his fibula during Sunday's blowout loss to the Buccaneers. The cruel part: it was only his second game back since being activated from the non-football injury list, a stint forced by blood clots found in his lung over the offseason.
Moton missed the first four games of the year while recovering, and now he's gone again — IR means at least four more weeks on the shelf. First-round pick Monroe Freeling, who held down right tackle during Moton's absence, stepped back in after the injury Sunday and now owns the job for the foreseeable future.
To fill the open roster spot, Carolina signed linebacker Nick Hampton off the practice squad. Hampton logged five tackles as a temporary elevation Sunday, so the Panthers clearly liked enough of what they saw to make it official.
What It Means For Your Lineup
Offensive line injuries don't show up in a box score, but they bleed into every skill position on the roster. A rookie right tackle protecting the blind side's weaker cousin means more pressure, more quick throws, and a lower ceiling for Carolina's passing game until Freeling settles in. If you're rostering a Panthers quarterback or receiver in deeper formats, temper expectations over the next few weeks.
Freeling himself isn't a fantasy asset, but he's the hinge the whole Carolina offense now swings on. Watch his pass-protection reps closely — if he holds up, the skill guys are fine; if he gets beat, the downgrade is real. Hampton is a special-teams and depth add, not a stash. For Moton owners in IDP or offensive-lineman leagues, this is a straight drop: he's not playing again anytime soon.
