Patriots Call Up Vildor and Brown as Gonzalez, Barmore Sit vs Bills
New England elevates two veteran DBs for the AFC East opener while ruling out two defensive starters with shoulder injuries.

Questionable rookie TE with just 11 PPR points through 2 games in 2026.
- Vildor & Brown elevated for Week 4 vs Buffalo
- Gonzalez & Barmore ruled out, shoulders
- Patriots enter 1-2, Bills unbeaten
- Vildor: 2 career INTs over 80 games
- Raridon: 11 PPR pts in 2 games (2026)
The Patriots patched up a banged-up secondary a day before kickoff, elevating cornerback Kindle Vildor and safety Mike Brown from the practice squad for Sunday's AFC East opener at Buffalo. Both moves come with starting corner Christian Gonzalez and defensive tackle Christian Barmore officially ruled out after each missed three straight practices with shoulder injuries.
This is standard call-up territory, not a roster shakeup — both players revert to the practice squad after the 1-2 Patriots face the unbeaten Bills at Highmark Stadium at 1 p.m. ET. Vildor, 29, picked off a pass in the preseason and brings 80 career games with 27 starts, two interceptions and a sack across 2,105 defensive snaps. Brown, 27, is back for a second straight week after logging one tackle and 12 defensive snaps in last week's 35-6 loss at Jacksonville.
Why the Call-Ups Matter
New England is thin, and the injury report shows it. Beyond Gonzalez and Barmore sitting, cornerback Channing Canada got downgraded, which is why Vildor's number was called. Three standard elevations are allowed before a player needs a 53-man deal — Vildor has two left, Brown has one. The Patriots are carrying an open active-roster spot heading into the game.
Neither Vildor nor Brown moves the fantasy needle in standard or even IDP deeper leagues. These are depth defenders filling snaps against Josh Allen and Buffalo's offense — not names you're chasing on waivers. The bigger fantasy signal is the Patriots defense as a whole taking a hit, which matters if you were leaning on a New England DST streamer against the Bills. Don't.
The Fantasy Angle
The injury that should catch a fantasy manager's eye is on the other side of the ball. Rookie tight end Eli Raridon lands on the questionable list for Sunday, and his profile is already quiet — just 2 catches for 32 yards and a touchdown through two games this season (2026), good for 11 PPR points total.
If you rostered Raridon on a touchdown dart throw, pump the brakes this week. Questionable tag plus a brutal road matchup against an unbeaten Buffalo team is a clear sit. Keep him stashed only if you're desperate at tight end in a deep league; otherwise he's droppable in anything shallower than 14 teams. Wait for a healthier, softer matchup before trusting the rookie again.
