Load management, not injury — monitor into Week 1 but no draft-day discount.

Key numbers
  • Garrett has missed 3 practices, out Monday too
  • McVay cites soreness in his lower half
  • Expected back for next practice block
  • Stafford, Adams, Young also on lighter reps
  • Rams Week 1 is vs 49ers in Melbourne, Australia

Myles Garrett won't be on the practice field for a fourth straight session, with Rams head coach Sean McVay pointing to some soreness in the reigning Defensive Player of the Year's lower half. Garrett has already sat out three practices and is slated to skip Monday's as well, per McVay. The reported timeline has him back for the next block of camp work.

This is management, not a medical scare. The Rams have zero incentive to grind Garrett through August reps when the games that matter don't start until Week 1 against the 49ers in Melbourne, Australia. Splashy offseason additions only pay off if the headliner is upright in September and beyond, so the team is banking soreness now to avoid something worse later.

Garrett isn't the only Ram on a reduced plate. Matthew Stafford, Davante Adams and Byron Young have all seen lighter-than-usual workloads to open camp, which is less a red flag than a coaching staff being deliberate with its high-value pieces.

Zoom out and the Rams are actually in enviable shape. Beyond Garrett's soreness, the only other notable absences are Justin Dedich (non-football injury list) and Al'zillion Hamilton (PUP). Around the league, preseason injury reports are piling up. L.A. is getting off light — for now.

The Fantasy Fallout

For fantasy purposes, none of this changes your board. Stafford is our No. 1 QB and No. 3 overall in 2026-27 rankings after a monster actual line last season (2025): 4,707 pass yards, 46 touchdowns and zero interceptions across 17 games for 370 PPR points. Adams sits at WR9 and No. 44 overall for us in 2026-27; his 2025 actuals were 60 catches, 789 yards and 14 scores in just 14 games, good for 223 PPR points. Camp reps being trimmed doesn't dent either number.

Bottom line: treat Garrett's absence as a rest day, not a warning. Keep drafting Stafford and Adams exactly where the model has them, and don't overthink the lighter camp loads. Circle back only if the soreness lingers past the next practice block — until then, this is a non-event for your roster.
