Steelers Give UDFA Edge Tilmon a Camp Tryout — Fantasy Non-Event for Now

The Steelers spent Monday's off-day taking a look at edge rusher Tilmon, an undrafted 2026 prospect who ran a 4.72-second 40 at 6'4 and 242 pounds and posted a modest 6.70 RAS coming out of college. Pittsburgh worked him out solo — reports say he was the only player they brought in that day — but walked away without handing him a contract.

The connection here is coaching, not production. Tilmon spent his final three college seasons at Texas Tech playing under C.J. Ah You, who's now the Steelers' outside linebackers coach. He also attended Pittsburgh's rookie minicamp in the spring as a tryout player, so this is the second time the staff has kicked the tires.

The résumé is thin. Tilmon was a rotational piece for the Red Raiders, finishing his college career with 5.5 sacks and logging just eight total tackles and one sack in 2025. Where he earned his snaps was on special teams — kickoff return and coverage, punt return and coverage. That's a core-four teams profile, not a pass-rush prospect teams are fighting over.

The Fantasy Fallout

Let's be blunt: there's nothing to do here. Tilmon isn't on the roster, he has no defined role, and our model has no data on him — he isn't in our database because there's nothing to project yet. Even if the Steelers eventually sign him, a special-teams-heavy UDFA edge is not an IDP asset in any standard format.

Pittsburgh resumes its second week of training camp Tuesday, and the depth chart at outside linebacker is where the real fantasy story lives — not with a tryout that ended without a signature. If you're in an IDP league, keep your attention on the players actually taking first- and second-team reps.
