Tank Dell Is Officially Back: Texans Activate WR After 10-Month Knee Rehab
Dell returns from a torn-up knee that cost him 24 games, but a 140-PPR-point 2024 won't make his fantasy comeback a sure thing.

Stash in deeper leagues, but a role isn't guaranteed yet.
- Activated off reserve/PUP on Oct. 25, 2026
- Missed 24 games after Dec. 21, 2024 knee injury
- Posted 51-667-3 for 140 PPR points in 2024
- Our WR rank: #9 overall, #2 at position
- Rookie 2023 ended early on a broken leg
The wait is over. Houston activated wide receiver Tank Dell to the 53-man roster off reserve/PUP, closing the book on one of the longest injury absences in the league. Dell dislocated his kneecap and tore multiple ligaments in a Dec. 21, 2024 game against Kansas City — an injury so severe it wiped out the rest of that season, all of 2025, and the first six games of this one.
That's 24 games on the shelf for a receiver who was flashing WR2 upside before the knee gave out. In his last full look (2024, 14 games), Dell caught 51 passes for 667 yards and three scores, good for 140 PPR points. Our model still carries him at #9 overall and #2 at the position — a nod to the ceiling, not a promise of immediate production.
Houston also made a couple of corresponding moves, elevating cornerback Bryce Hall and linebacker Kenneth Murray from the practice squad. Those are depth plays. Dell's return is the headline.
What the Comeback Actually Means
Here's the reality check. This is a player coming off a dislocated kneecap AND torn ligaments — not a tweaked hamstring. And it's not even his first catastrophic injury; his 2023 rookie year ended on a broken leg in Week 13. Elite talent, brutal luck. Teams almost never hand a full snap count to a guy in his first game back from something this gruesome.
Expect Houston to ease him in. A snap-count ramp is the smart baseline assumption, and target volume could be thin while he knocks the rust off and the staff manages the knee. The upside is real — Dell can win from the slot and take the top off a defense — but week one back is rarely the week it all clicks.
The Fantasy Call
If you've got a bench spot and you're in a deeper league, grab Dell now before the shine wears off someone else's roster. Just don't fire him into your lineup blind. Watch the first game: track his snap percentage and route participation, not just the box score. If he's pushing 60-plus percent of snaps and drawing targets, you've got a buy-low WR with WR2 ceiling for the stretch run. Until then, he's a WATCH — stash, monitor, and let the usage tell you when to pounce.
