Houston shuffled the bottom of its roster Wednesday, signing wide receiver Montrell Washington and waiving defensive lineman Junior Tafuna in the corresponding move. The trigger was DJ Turner landing on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury, leaving the Texans a body short at the position.
Washington isn't the fix you'd draft around. His last meaningful sample came with Denver in 2022, when he played 15 games and turned nine targets into four catches for a grand total of 2 receiving yards, adding 30 yards on five carries. That's a special-teams and depth profile, not a fantasy one.
Tafuna, for his part, was never on your radar. He joined the Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2025, spent his rookie year bouncing around the practice squad, and signed a futures deal back in January before getting cut here.
What Turner's IR Means
Turner is the only name in this transaction with any fantasy pedigree, and even that's generous. He sits at #312 overall in our rankings, #112 among receivers, after posting 47 PPR points across 12 games in the 2024 season — 16 catches for 158 yards and a touchdown, plus a rushing score. His last five games ran 3.9 fantasy points below his season average, so the arrow was already pointing down before the injury.
The undisclosed nature of the injury and the IR designation together mean he's off the field for a minimum stretch with no clear return window. For a player who was a deep-league dart throw at best, that's the end of the conversation.
Bottom line: if you're somehow rostering DJ Turner in a standard or even most deep leagues, drop him and move on. Washington isn't a waiver add outside of the deepest dynasty devy formats — file this whole move under roster housekeeping and spend your FAAB elsewhere.
