Jordan Mason

IR stint should be short — stash him if your bench allows.

Key numbers
  • Mason to IR with a thumb fracture, already had surgery
  • Week 1: 59 rush yds, 15 carries, 1 TD vs Packers
  • Vikings don't expect him past the 4-week IR window
  • Mason: 129 PPR pts in 2025, RB35 in our rankings
  • DeeJay Dallas up from PS; Jerome Ford to practice squad

Jordan Mason is headed to injured reserve. Kevin O'Connell confirmed Wednesday that the Vikings running back suffered a thumb fracture, one that already required a procedure to repair. The good news for Minnesota: O'Connell said the team doesn't expect Mason to miss more than the minimum four-week IR window.

It's a frustrating hit to a backfield that just got rolling. Mason opened the season with 59 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries in the Vikings' win over the Packers — exactly the kind of early-down volume that made him a usable RB3 out of the gate. For context, he finished 2025 with 758 rushing yards, six scores and 129 PPR points across 16 games, checking in as our RB35.

The Roster Moves

To fill the spot, Minnesota promoted DeeJay Dallas from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. The Vikings also signed veteran Jerome Ford to the practice squad, adding another experienced body to the room. Neither addition is a needle-mover in fantasy terms — Dallas managed just 21 rushing yards and 2 PPR points over six games in 2025, while Ford put up 44 PPR points across 13 games in Washington, trending slightly below his own average over his last five outings.

The Fantasy Fallout

The obvious beneficiary here is whoever's next in line for touches in Minnesota, not the practice-squad shuffle. Dallas is a depth signing (our RB106) rather than a starter you're rushing to add — file him under emergency-only unless the workload picture changes dramatically. Ford is even further down the board at RB70 and lands on the practice squad, so he's off your radar entirely for now.

If you roster Mason, don't panic. A four-week absence is annoying but survivable, and with surgery already behind him, the recovery clock is ticking in your favor. Stash him if you've got the IR slot or a deep bench, and lean on your other backs until he's cleared. This is a hold, not a drop — the moment you cut him is the moment he's back carrying the ball 15 times a game.
