Von Miller is going home. The 14-year veteran agreed to terms with the Cowboys, per ESPN's Adam Schefter, and Miller confirmed it himself with an Instagram photo in a No. 40 Dallas jersey. For a DeSoto, Texas native who starred at Texas A&M, this one's about as on-the-nose as free agency gets.
Don't let the age or the storyline distract from the production, though. Miller put up nine sacks last season while playing just 37 percent of the defensive snaps — his best sack total since 2021, and a genuinely efficient rate for a player in a rotational role. That's 138.5 career sacks now across stops with the Broncos, Rams, Bills and Commanders.
He's been working out near the Cowboys' Frisco facility for a while, so this wasn't a cold call. Dallas gets a proven edge presence to plug into Christian Parker's 3-4 scheme, where Miller profiles as an outside linebacker. On paper, it addresses a real need at a premium position.
The résumé speaks for itself: a Super Bowl MVP with Denver, a second ring with the Rams. The Cowboys, meanwhile, haven't even sniffed an NFC Championship Game since their last title in the 1995 season. Miller isn't going to fix that alone, but a situational pass rusher who still gets home is a useful piece.
The Fantasy Fallout
Here's the honest IDP read: temper the excitement. Nine sacks on 37 percent of snaps is efficient, but it's still a part-time role, and Dallas signed him to rush the passer, not to rack up tackles. In tackle-heavy IDP formats, that snap share is a hard ceiling. In big-play or sack-premium leagues, he's got sneaky standalone value on obvious passing downs.
For now, Miller is a WATCH. Let the depth chart and reported snap projections shake out through camp before you spend a roster spot. If Dallas signals a bigger role than the 37 percent he saw last year, he becomes a streamable edge in deeper sack-premium formats. In shallow leagues, leave him on the wire and let someone else chase the name.
