Aaron Rodgers said Wednesday he's never shared a roster with four quarterbacks before, and at this point in a 21-year career, that's saying something. The Steelers are carrying Rodgers, veteran Mason Rudolph, 2025 sixth-rounder Will Howard and 2026 third-rounder Drew Allar on the active 53 — a first for both Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy.
Rodgers, who put up 3,322 passing yards with 24 touchdowns and seven picks across 16 games last season (227 PPR points, good for our QB19 heading into 2026), acknowledged that stashing four passers means pulling a roster spot from somewhere else. His logic: if these are the best 53, then all four belong. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the depth chart, but a clear signal Pittsburgh is thinking past 2026.
Why Four Quarterbacks
This is Rodgers' final season, and the Steelers know it. That leaves an open competition looming for 2027 between Rudolph, Howard and Allar. Rodgers said he watched Howard and Allar from home during the preseason finale against Buffalo and came away impressed — noting the moment never looked too big for either rookie, and that both are further along than he was at the same stage.
For context, Rodgers reminded everyone that his own first preseason was ugly: 20-of-37 for 172 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions before he found any rhythm late in the fourth exhibition. He's setting the bar low on purpose, but the message is that Pittsburgh's future arms are ahead of schedule.
The Fantasy Angle
None of this changes Rodgers' role for 2026 — he's the unquestioned starter, and a stacked room behind him doesn't threaten his snaps this year. But it does cap the ceiling. He's our QB19 for a reason: solid volume, low turnover risk, minimal rushing production (61 rush yards last season). His last five games ran just +1.6 fantasy points over his season average, so don't expect a late-career spike.
Bottom line: Rodgers is a HOLD and a matchup-based QB2 in single-QB leagues. Stream him against soft secondaries, bench him in tough spots. In superflex, he's a serviceable floor play but not someone you're building around. Keep an eye on Howard and Allar as deep dynasty targets — the 2027 job is genuinely up for grabs.
