Breece Hall Goes Down Untouched, But the Jets Aren't Panicking

Hall left preseason Week 1 with a possible groin issue after a routine catch. Coach Aaron Glenn downplayed it — here's what it means for the RB19.

Breece Hall

Coach says it's minor; no reason to move off a top-20 back yet.

Key numbers
  • Hall exited Aug. 17 with a possible groin injury
  • Coach Aaron Glenn: not a big deal
  • Hall: 208 PPR pts in 2025 (16 games)
  • Our rank: #58 overall, RB19
  • Love (Cardinals) out with high ankle sprain

The scariest injuries are the ones nobody caused. Jets running back Breece Hall went down untouched on August 17 after hauling in a pass, with trainers zeroing in on his upper right leg — a possible groin issue, per reporting from the scene. He's our RB19 and No. 58 overall back, and any managers who drafted him early this month felt their stomach drop watching him walk off.

Then head coach Aaron Glenn stepped to the mic and effectively waved it off, telling reporters he didn't think it was a big deal. That's the phrase you want to hear in mid-August. Hall is coming off a 208-PPR-point 2025 season across all 16 games — 1,065 rushing yards, four rushing scores, and 36 catches for 350 yards — so the floor here is a proven every-week starter, not a project.

The Rookie Bruises Piling Up

The bigger long-term worry might be in Arizona. Cardinals rookie Jeremiyah Love, the No. 3 overall pick, looked electric in his debut with 58 rushing yards on 11 carries plus three catches, only to leave with a high ankle sprain. Coach Mike LaFleur first said Love could've returned, then two days later ruled him out for the week and for preseason Week 2. High ankle sprains linger, so his availability for the Sept. 13 opener is a legitimate question mark.

The rookie carnage doesn't stop there. Saints first-rounder Kendre Tyson (No. 8 overall) is looking at roughly two months out with a hamstring injury and could open the year on IR. And in Chicago, Kyle Monangai hyperextended a knee and is expected to miss multiple weeks — which bumps D'Andre Swift's workload, though Swift was already our RB15 and No. 41 overall after a 229-point 2025.

The Fantasy Fallout

Elsewhere on the QB carousel: Commanders backup Marcus Mariota sprained his MCL and is done for the preseason, while Titans reserve Mitch Trubisky is being evaluated for a biceps injury after clutching his throwing arm. That could funnel more reps to Will Levis, our QB28 and No. 110 overall, who posted a tidy 13 TD and zero interceptions across 12 games in 2024. Neither is a lineup consideration in most formats, but Levis is a deep-league watch if the door stays open.

For Hall specifically: hold, and hold firmly. Until the Jets say otherwise, treat Glenn's 'not a big deal' as gospel and don't let a nervous leaguemate steal him at a discount. If you want a genuine buy target off this news, it's Swift — Monangai's knee only widens the lane in front of a back who already cleared 1,000 yards last year.
