Cowboys Lose Overshown (Hamstring) and Hooker (Arm) — Defense Reshuffles
An MRI confirmed a hamstring strain for DeMarvion Overshown, who's out 1-2 weeks, while Malik Hooker heads for forearm surgery Tuesday.

Hamstring strain shelves him 1-2 weeks — bench in IDP formats now.
- Overshown MRI: hamstring strain, out 1-2 weeks
- Injured with 11:40 left vs. Giants on Sunday
- Hooker gets forearm surgery Tuesday
- Winters, Barham, James in MLB mix
- Skattebo: 126 PPR pts in 2025 (8 games)
The Cowboys' defense took two hits in Sunday's loss to the Giants, and both are the kind that reshape depth charts. An MRI confirmed a hamstring strain for linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, an injury expected to keep him out 1-2 weeks. On the back end, safety Malik Hooker fractured his forearm and is scheduled for surgery Tuesday, per head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Overshown went down with 11:40 left in the game, pulling up and grabbing his right hamstring on a Cam Skattebo one-yard run — the same play where Skattebo fumbled and recovered his own ball. It's a soft-tissue issue, which is both good news (no structural damage) and bad news (hamstrings love to linger). The 1-2 week window is optimistic; treat it as the floor, not the ceiling.
With Overshown sidelined, Dallas has options in the middle. Dee Winters, Jaishawn Barham and Shemar James are all in the mix to man the middle linebacker spot. None of them carries Overshown's every-down ceiling, so the snaps could get muddy until the staff settles on a pecking order.
The Fantasy Fallout
In IDP leagues, Overshown was a plug-and-play tackle producer, and losing him for even one week stings. You can't start a linebacker who isn't on the field, so slide him to your bench and hunt the waiver wire for a stopgap. If the replacement snaps consolidate behind one name — watch Winters and Barham closely — that player becomes a short-term streaming target while Overshown heals.
Hooker is the tougher pill. Forearm surgery isn't a 1-2 week affair, so if you were rostering him for safety production, it's time to move on and stash the spot for someone active. This isn't a wait-and-see situation.
The sneaky beneficiary here is on the other sideline: Skattebo, our No. 148 overall (No. 36 at RB), quietly logged 126 PPR points across eight games in 2025. He's not the story, but he was the guy on the field when Overshown got hurt — and a Cowboys front that's shuffling personnel is exactly the kind of matchup that helps a grinder-type back. Worth a bench stash in deeper formats.
Bottom line: bench Overshown for now and expect a return in a couple of weeks, cut Hooker if you're tight on roster space, and keep an eye on which Dallas linebacker actually earns the green dot.
