Deebo Samuel's Hamstring Sidelines Him Indefinitely as Bosa Eyes Week 6

Samuel managed just 21 receiving yards before exiting Sunday's 32-29 win. Now he's out indefinitely, leaving a thin 49ers receiver room to pick up the slack.

SELL HIGH
Deebo Samuel

Indefinite hamstring timeline makes him a hold-and-hope at best.

Key numbers
  • Samuel: 2 catches, 21 yards before exiting Sunday
  • Samuel sits at WR28, our 2026 rank #78
  • Bosa has a 'chance' to return Week 6 vs Commanders
  • Bosa has missed the last three games (calf)
  • Cooks is next man up alongside Mike Evans

Deebo Samuel is headed for an indefinite absence after tweaking his hamstring in San Francisco's 32-29 win over Seattle on Sunday. Kyle Shanahan said Samuel got it pretty good and will miss some time — no return date, no timeline, just a shrug and a wait. Samuel had already been quiet before the injury, finishing with two catches for 21 yards and two carries for four yards.

That's a rough exit for a player who was already coughing up value. Through five games this season (2026), Samuel has 16 catches for 206 yards and three scores plus 78 rushing yards — good for 60 PPR points and a WR28 finish in our rankings at #78 overall. Decent, not dominant. An open-ended hamstring timeline doesn't improve the outlook.

Who Soaks Up The Targets

With Samuel down, Shanahan listed Brandin Cooks, Jacob Cowing, and Jordan Watkins as the options lining up next to Mike Evans. Cooks is the only one worth a real look — he's our WR13 at #31 overall, though his 2026 line is tiny so far (one catch, seven yards, a touchdown, eight PPR points across two games). Cowing (two PPR points, WR145 in our 2026 rankings) and the unranked Watkins are deep-league dart throws at best.

Bosa's Timeline Is The Brighter Note

The defensive side offered better news. Nick Bosa has sat the last three games with a calf issue, but Shanahan said he has a chance to suit up in Week 6 when the 49ers host Washington on Monday night. That's not a guarantee, but it's the first genuine optimism around Bosa's return — relevant if you're in an IDP format.

For fantasy managers, the move with Samuel is to sell high if anyone in your league still values the name — his floor just dropped and the return window is murky. If you can't move him, hold and stash while hunting elsewhere. Cooks becomes a speculative add in 12-team-plus leagues given the volume vacuum, but temper expectations until we see how Shanahan splits the snaps. Monitor Bosa's Monday status closely if you're in an IDP build.
