Drake Maye's New Weapons: Why A.J. Brown Changes His Fantasy Ceiling
The Patriots QB threw for 4,394 yards and 31 TDs last year with a thin cast. Now he's got A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs — and it should scare defenses.
New WR1 role in an upgraded offense makes his WR11 rank look cheap.

Drake Maye put up 4,394 passing yards, 31 touchdowns and just eight picks in his first full season as a starter (2025, 17 games) — and he did it throwing to a supporting cast that ranged from serviceable to duct tape. Now New England has handed him A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs, and the 24-year-old isn't hiding how he feels about it. Ahead of Wednesday's opener against the Seahawks, Maye said it's hard not to be excited about the skill group he's inherited.
That's more than quarterback-speak. Brown alone posted 78 catches, 1,003 yards and seven scores last year for 220 PPR points, and he was trending up — plus-four fantasy points over his final five games versus his season average. Dropping a proven WR1 into an offense that already produced a top-three fantasy quarterback is the kind of math that moves rankings.
The Upgrade Is Real
Maye leaned on the idea his dad drilled into him: don't force the ball to one guy. With Brown and Doubs projecting as the primary targets, DeMario Douglas working the slot, and holdover Hollins plus sophomores Kyle Williams and Efton Chism behind them, he suddenly has options. Tight end Hunter Henry returns after a 60-catch, 768-yard, seven-TD campaign (2025) that made him a back-end TE1 at #9 at the position in our model.
The backfield got healthy too. Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson are both back, and third-round tight end Eli Raridon adds depth behind Henry. On paper this is one of the more complete rosters Maye has seen in New England — and a clear step up from the cast he dragged to respectable numbers as a rookie.
The Fantasy Fallout
Maye sits at QB3 (#9 overall) in our 2026 rankings, and that price already bakes in some of this upside — he's a confident weekly QB1 start, no debate. The real value play is Brown, who checks in at WR11 (#47 overall) despite stepping into a defined WR1 role next to an ascending passer. Buy him where you can; that rank feels a touch conservative given the target share he's about to command.
Henry is a fine streaming TE1 with red-zone equity but nothing more in a crowded room. Douglas is a bye-week flex at best after finishing at 96 PPR points last season (2025) and sliding late in the year. Everything here points one direction: Maye's ceiling just went up, and so did Brown's. Act accordingly.
