Jayden Higgins Tears ACL, Ends His Season Before It Started

The Texans just lost their most intriguing young pass-catcher for the year. Second-year wideout Jayden Higgins tore his ACL during Tuesday's joint practice with the Ravens and will miss all of 2026, per a report from ESPN. He's 23, and this was supposed to be his breakout.

Higgins came in as the No. 34 overall pick out of Iowa State and delivered a solid rookie line last season (2025): 41 catches, 525 yards and a team-high six touchdowns across 17 games, good for 130 PPR points and a WR46 finish in our rankings (#140 overall). He tacked on nine grabs for 98 yards in two playoff outings, too. That's a real foundation, and now it's on ice.

At 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, Higgins gave C.J. Stroud a second big body to pair with two-time Pro Bowler Nico Collins. The two are nearly identical in frame, and the vision was obvious: two contested-catch monsters on the outside. Collins was gushing about him earlier this camp, calling him a dog and saying Higgins had every tool in the world and would eventually be the face of the franchise.

Instead, Houston is right back where it keeps ending up — scrambling to replace injured receivers.

Who Absorbs the Targets

The immediate beneficiaries live behind Collins and tight end Dalton Schultz, who led the team with 82 catches, 777 yards and three scores last season (2025) — 178 PPR points and our TE10. Beyond those two, the depth chart gets murky fast. Jaylin Noel, last year's third-round pick out of Iowa State, is the name to watch and could see snaps in the slot and outside.

Xavier Hutchinson is the closer stylistic match for Higgins at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, so he's the like-for-like body if Houston wants to keep the offense's shape intact. Neither has done much in the NFL yet, which makes this a projection play more than a proven one.

The real wildcard is Tank Dell. He was electric before his injury — 98 catches, 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns over his first two seasons — but the knee he wrecked late in 2024 was catastrophic: a dislocation with torn ACL, MCL and LCL plus meniscus damage. He missed all of last season, and DeMeco Ryans said he isn't sure Dell will even play in the preseason. Circle him, but don't build around him yet.

The Fantasy Fallout

Higgins was a late-round dart in redraft leagues; that dart is now in the trash. If you drafted him, cut him for a healthy body. In dynasty, hold — an ACL at 23 is not a career sentence, and the talent that had Collins raving is still there for 2027.

The winner is Collins, who now commands an even larger target share opposite a thin group and stays a locked-in weekly starter. Schultz's floor gets sturdier too, as Stroud will lean on his most reliable route-runner. If you want a cheap speculative stash, Noel is the best bet to inherit real volume, with Hutchinson a size-based dark horse.

Bottom line: this is bad news for Higgins managers and slightly good news for anyone holding Collins or Schultz. Keep Dell on your watch list and let his preseason usage tell you whether he's a September add or a decoy — Houston's receiver room has a long history of not staying healthy, and the target math just tilted further toward whoever's standing.
