Elite upside, but no Week 1 commitment yet — draft him, don't lock him in.

Key numbers
  • Torn ACL + meniscus repair in right knee, injured Week 4 2025
  • Avoided PUP list, back in team drills by mid-August
  • 1,200 yards, 7 TD as a rookie, plus a Pro Bowl nod
  • 167 yards & 2 TD two weeks before the 2025 injury
  • 57 PPR pts in 4 games (2025) before going down

Malik Nabers is close. He's just not ready to put a date on it. With the Giants' Week 1 opener against the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football roughly a week out, New York's star receiver declined to commit to suiting up, telling reporters after Monday's practice that he won't force the issue if his surgically repaired right knee isn't cleared for a full four quarters. Nabers tore his ACL and meniscus in Week 4 of 2025, ending a season that had barely begun.

The recovery has been brutal. Nabers underwent two knee surgeries in under a year — the ACL reconstruction plus a full meniscus repair, followed by a second procedure to clear out scar tissue causing stiffness. That's a long, unforgiving timeline. The encouraging part: he avoided the PUP list in training camp and had progressed to team drills by mid-August, faster than the offseason chatter suggested.

What Nabers Is Actually Saying

Don't let the practice tape fool you, is the gist of it. Nabers said he might look 100% from the outside and even catches himself watching clips thinking he's moving well, but that inside his own body there are still cuts and contact scenarios that don't feel right yet. He said he feels good and that whatever's left on the to-do list isn't anything major, but he was deliberately vague about what he needs to check off for the medical staff. Read that how you want.

The upside here is enormous, and that's not hyperbole. In just 19 career games, Nabers has been one of the best receivers in football. As a rookie he racked up 1,200 yards and seven scores on a bad Giants offense and made the Pro Bowl. Before the injury last year he'd already gone for 167 yards and two touchdowns in a Week 2 explosion, posting 57 PPR points across four games (2025) — WR1 pace before the knee gave out.

The Fantasy Fallout

The offense around him is also better now. Nabers will be catching passes from Jaxson Dart, who ranks 36th overall and 16th at QB in our model and put up 242 PPR points in 14 games (2025) as a rookie, thanks in large part to nine rushing touchdowns. A more talented supporting cast plus a mobile, aggressive quarterback is a genuine tailwind for Nabers' target volume.

For fantasy managers: keep drafting him, but keep your eyes open. Nabers is unranked in our model right now purely because of the injury uncertainty, and a healthy version is a clear WR1. Grab him at the discount his knee is creating, then check the Friday injury report before you lock him into your Week 1 lineup. If he sits, you want a viable fill-in ready — not a scramble at kickoff. This is a WATCH until we see him practice in full without limits.
