Panthers Lose Horn and Jackson to IR — Coker and Legette Banged Up Too
Jaycee Horn's torn quad could end his season after five picks in 2025. Carolina's defense ranks 28th in yards allowed — and the injury list is only growing.

Quad injury and a cratering Carolina offense make him a bench stash at best.
- Horn (quad) and Jackson (groin) both on IR Wednesday
- Horn reportedly tore his quad — possibly season-ending
- Carolina ranks 28th in yards allowed per game
- Panthers last in NFL at 5.7 yards per carry
- Only three CBs left on the active roster
Carolina's week went from euphoric to miserable in a hurry. After thumping the Falcons 34-3 in Week 3, the Panthers dropped a 21-18 decision to the Browns and lost both halves of one of the league's best cornerback tandems. Jaycee Horn (quad) and Mike Jackson (groin) landed on IR Wednesday, meaning a minimum four-game absence apiece.
Horn's situation is the scarier one. Reports surfaced Monday that the two-time Pro Bowler tore his quad, an injury that could cost him the rest of the season. He pulled in five interceptions last year — matching his career total from his first four seasons combined. Jackson wasn't far behind with four picks, so losing both at once guts the one unit Carolina could lean on.
A Defense Already Bleeding Yards
The timing is ugly. Carolina sits 28th in yards allowed per game, dragged down by the 59 points the Bears hung on them in Week 1, and the run defense is dead last at 5.7 yards per carry. Now the secondary's strength is a hole. The Panthers are down to three active cornerbacks and signed Robert Rochell to the practice squad, where Corey Thornton, DeVonta Smith and Zion Childress were already parked. Trevon Diggs is among the veteran names floated as a potential outside addition.
And it's not just the corners. Guard Damien Lewis (elbow) and receiver Jalen Coker (quad) both exited the Cleveland loss early, while linebacker Devin Lloyd (calf), safety Nick Scott (rib) and receiver Xavier Legette (knee) didn't dress at all. For a 1-2 team, that's a pileup you can't paper over with practice-squad call-ups.
The Fantasy Fallout
There's no direct IDP relevance for Horn or Jackson in most leagues, but the ripple effects matter. A Panthers defense this leaky means opposing passers and skill players get a tidy matchup bump the next month — target the receivers and backs who draw Carolina while the secondary is held together with tape.
On the Panthers' own side, tread carefully. Jalen Coker (our WR71, 88 PPR points across 11 games in 2025) was trending up before the quad issue, averaging +3.8 fantasy points over his last five versus his season mark — but a banged-up offense inside a losing team isn't the spot to gamble. Xavier Legette (WR68, 89 PPR points in 15 games in 2025) is already dinged with a knee problem and trending down. Bench both until we see healthy snaps. If you've got an open IDP slot, Horn is a straight drop given the possible season-ending timeline.
