Stash him now before he's activated, but don't start blind.

Key numbers
  • First full practice since 2024 injury (Wed)
  • 21-day return window opened Oct. 5
  • 98 rec, 1,376 yds, 10 TD in first 25 games
  • 2024: 140 PPR pts over 14 games
  • Caserio eyes return this week or next

Tank Dell is close. The Texans receiver was a full participant in Wednesday's practice — his first full session since the injury that ended his 2024 season — and general manager Nick Caserio said on a Houston radio show that, barring a setback, Dell could be back on the field as soon as this week or next.

Houston opened Dell's 21-day return-to-practice window on Oct. 5, so the clock is officially running. That's the procedural box that had to be checked before he could be activated, and a full practice this early in the window is about as encouraging a signal as you'll get at this stage of a long rehab.

The pre-injury résumé is the reason fantasy managers care. Dell caught 98 passes for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns across his first 25 career games as a 2023 third-round pick. His last healthy stretch, the 2024 season, produced 51 catches for 667 yards and three scores over 14 games — good for 140 PPR points, actual, in a role that never fully settled before he got hurt.

Where He Fits In Houston

The offense around him is banged up, which could open targets quickly. The Texans practiced without David Montgomery (groin), and Nico Collins, Dalton Schultz and Will Anderson Jr. were among a long list of limited players. Collins remains the clear alpha here — he's our No. 43 overall, WR8, and has posted 63 PPR points (actual) through just three games this season (2026). Dell slots in behind him as a complementary piece whose exact snap count on return is the big unknown.

The Fantasy Call

Here's the tricky part: Dell carries our No. 7 overall receiver ranking, but that number reflects his ceiling, not a guarantee of an immediate heavy workload off a layoff this long. Players returning from major injuries rarely step straight into a full route tree in week one.

If he's sitting on your waiver wire, grab him now — the upside is worth a bench stash, and you don't want to be the manager scrambling the day he's activated. But keep him out of your starting lineup until we see a real snap share and target count. This is a watch-and-stash, not a plug-and-play.
