Baker Mayfield says he feels disrespected, and the Buccaneers reportedly aren't thrilled with how he's said it. Tampa Bay put a two-year extension worth just over $100 million on the table, per ESPN, and Mayfield turned his nose up at the length. He's still slated to lead the offense in 2026, but a free-agent exit after the season now feels like the base case.

The turnovers are still there — 11 picks, and a 28-26 career record as Tampa's starter — but he's a genuinely productive QB1 in the right offense.
Where He Could Land
Arizona is the cleanest fit. The Cardinals will run it back with Jacoby Brissett in 2026 but have no long-term answer, and Mayfield would inherit a young core in Marvin Harrison Jr., Trey McBride and rookie back Jeremiyah Love. Atlanta is the sexier landing spot for fantasy purposes — Bijan Robinson (369 PPR pts in 2025, our RB2), Drake London and Kyle Pitts is a loaded room, and the Falcons are genuinely a competent QB away from contention.
Houston lurks if C.J. Stroud (209 PPR pts last year, QB21 in our rankings) stalls again, and Minnesota could pounce if the Kyler Murray–J.J. McCarthy competition flops. The Jets and Steelers round out the list, though both feel like fallback options. Pittsburgh's Aaron Rodgers (227 PPR pts in 2025) plans to retire after this season, which at least keeps a door cracked.

Here's the thing: none of this touches your 2026 draft. Mayfield is still Tampa's starter, still throwing to a strong receiver group, and still coming off a legit top-12 fantasy campaign. The contract noise is a 2027 storyline, not a redraft one.
For managers, treat Mayfield as a stable back-end QB1 or elite QB2 right now and HOLD. The real move is filing away his 2027 destination — a landing in Atlanta or Minnesota would spike his ceiling, while a Jets-type spot would cap it. But that's next summer's problem.
