Locked in as Week 1 starter — a stopgap streamer at best.

Key numbers
  • Beck: 15-of-19, 188 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT in HOF Game debut
  • Rib injury from HOF Game, not considered serious
  • Brissett starts Thursday vs. Raiders
  • Beck targeted next Saturday vs. Cowboys
  • Brissett: 233 PPR pts in 2025 (actual, 14 games)

Carson Beck's NFL preview is on pause. The Cardinals' third-round rookie out of Miami will sit out Thursday's preseason game against the Raiders with a rib injury he picked up in last week's Hall of Fame Game — an injury he practiced through all week before Arizona decided caution beat curiosity. It's not considered serious, and the plan is to get him back on the field for the third preseason game against the Cowboys next Saturday.

That's a shame for anyone who wanted the rematch. Beck was supposed to line up against fellow rookie Fernando Mendoza, who's making his NFL debut and who out-dueled Beck in the College Football Playoff National Championship when Indiana beat Miami. Instead, veteran Jacoby Brissett — already announced as the starter after sitting last Thursday — takes the reps.

Beck earned the buzz. In his debut he went 15 of 19 for 188 yards with a touchdown and no picks, hitting Simi Fehoko on a 5-yard score midway through the second quarter for his first NFL touchdown. His go-to guy was Jalen Brooks, who reeled in three catches for 99 yards, including a 49-yard grab. Head coach Mike LaFleur said the performance mirrored what he keeps seeing in practice — Beck keeps it simple and lets the play come to him.

What It Means For Your Roster

Let's be clear about the pecking order. Brissett is the guy that matters right now, and he's our No. 38 overall (QB17), coming off a 233-PPR-point 2025 (actual, 14 games) with 3,366 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and eight picks. He's a competent bridge starter, not a fantasy difference-maker — a two-QB or superflex streamer at best while the Cardinals figure out their timeline.

The rookie is the developmental stash. A rib injury this minor doesn't dent Beck's long-term stock, but a third-rounder sitting behind an established veteran isn't Week 1 fantasy relevant, full stop. File him under dynasty watch and revisit when he's cleared and taking real snaps.

As for the pass-catchers, temper it. Brooks (our WR175) and Fehoko (WR155) lit up a Hall of Fame Game against backups — Fehoko's actually trending down, at -2.1 fantasy points versus his season average over his last five (2024). Preseason smoke, nothing to add for. Hold Brissett if you're in a deep superflex, and let everyone else marinate on the wire.
