Commanders' Daron Payne Pops Up Questionable — Burks Also in Doubt vs Eagles

Washington's defensive line is banged up ahead of Sunday night, and a thin receiver room could push Dyami Brown (16 PPR pts in 2026) into real snaps.

Burks' absence could push his target share up against Philly.

Key numbers
  • Payne hit the report Friday with a foot injury
  • Four Commanders listed questionable for Sunday
  • Kinlaw (knee) already ruled out
  • Eagles down Smith, Wicks and Campbell
  • Dyami Brown: 9 rec, 94 yds in 2026 (16 PPR)

Washington's defensive front took a hit on Friday when Daron Payne showed up on the injury report for the first time all week with a foot issue. A fresh name appearing on a Friday report is rarely a coincidence — it usually means something happened in practice — and the Commanders now list Payne as questionable for Sunday night against the Eagles. He's no longer the wrecking ball he was a few years back, but losing him for any length of time would still sting a defense that's already short-handed.

Payne isn't alone. Four Commanders carry the questionable tag: receiver Burks, tight end John Bates (shoulder), and defensive lineman Johnny Newton (pectoral), who's technically still on IR with his 21-day window open. Add in Javon Kinlaw, who was ruled out with a knee injury he picked up against the 49ers, and Washington could be playing without multiple interior linemen on Sunday night.

What It Means for the Passing Game

The receiver picture is where fantasy managers should perk up. With Antonio Williams already set for a bigger snap count and target share, Burks is the presumptive X-receiver. If he can't go, the Commanders would lean on Dyami Brown, who hasn't done much — 9 catches for 94 yards and no touchdowns across six games in 2026, good for just 16 PPR points. That's not a profile you trust in lineups.

Williams is the more interesting name. He's sitting at WR70 in our rankings (#201 overall) with 18 catches for 205 yards and a score through six games in 2026 (45 PPR points), and his last five outings have run slightly below his season average (-1.8 fantasy points). A reduced receiver room could nudge his volume in the right direction, though the floor is still thin.

The Eagles' Side

Philadelphia isn't exactly whole either. The Eagles will be without linebacker Jihad Campbell and receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks. Wicks has quietly logged 19 catches for 284 yards and a touchdown in 2026 (53 PPR points, WR58 in our model), so his absence trims Philly's depth even if it doesn't move your lineup. The one piece of good news for the Eagles: Saquon Barkley is available.

Bottom line: keep an eye on the final status of Burks. If he's inactive, Williams becomes a dart-throw for deeper PPR formats and Brown becomes a desperation-only play at best. Don't go reaching for Brown off the waiver wire on a single week of forced snaps — this is a watch-and-wait situation, not a chase.
