Dexter deal signals Atlanta is building a winner around its RB1.

Key numbers
  • 4-year, $78M extension with Atlanta
  • 14 pressures through 3 weeks (PFF)
  • 43 total pressures in all of 2025
  • Acquired in Aug. for a 5th and Clark Phillips
  • Pairs with Brandon Dorlus on interior line

The Falcons didn't wait for the open market to set the price. Atlanta signed interior defensive lineman Gervon Dexter to a four-year, $78 million extension, cashing in on a trade that cost them only a fifth-round pick and Clark Phillips back in August. Three weeks into the season, that price looks like a steal.

Dexter already has 14 pressures through three games, per Pro Football Focus — roughly a third of the 43 he logged across all of 2025. GM Ian Cunningham, who helped draft Dexter in Chicago, called him a young, ascending talent whose power and disruption are hard to find, and said he's been just as impressed with Dexter's growth off the field.

Why the Bears Let Him Walk

Chicago was wary. Dexter's run defense and tackling had been inconsistent, so the Bears balked at committing big money in what became a contract year. Atlanta bet on the pass-rush upside instead, slotting him next to Brandon Dorlus, Maason Smith and LaCale London on an attacking front.

So far the bet is paying off. Dexter has been fine against the run and terrifying as a rusher. He and Dorlus have been bulldozing overmatched linemen — Jordan Love, in particular, spent a long afternoon getting chased around his own backfield. Lock him up now, Atlanta reasoned, before the price exploded in free agency.

The deal fits a pattern. Cunningham has been methodically securing Atlanta's core — Bijan Robinson, Drake London, Kyle Pitts and now Dexter — to keep the group intact into 2027 and beyond, when the team projects to have cap room to build around them. Pairing Dexter, Dorlus and Smith gives the Falcons a formidable interior for at least two seasons.

The Fantasy Fallout

For IDP leagues, Dexter is the obvious winner. A pressure-generating interior lineman who's already hit 14 through three weeks is a weekly-starter conversation in tackle-plus-sack formats, and the contract removes any lingering 'is he a short-timer?' worry. If your league rewards pressures or sacks, he's a buy before the production becomes common knowledge.

The bigger fantasy story is what a better Falcons defense does for the offense. A front that wrecks games and gets stops means more possessions and more positive game scripts — the exact environment that keeps Bijan Robinson fed. Robinson is our No. 4 overall and RB2 for 2026-27 after a 369 PPR-point campaign last season (2025), with 1,478 rushing yards and 79 catches for 820 more. His last five games last year ran 1.5 fantasy points above his own season average. A defense that protects leads only helps him grind clock.

Drake London is the one to monitor. He's our WR21 (No. 66 overall) and posted 200 PPR points in just 12 games last season (2025) — 68 catches, 919 yards, seven scores. But his last five games last year came in 3.4 points under his season average, and a run-leaning game script built on defensive dominance doesn't inflate target volume. London stays a flex-plus starter, just temper the ceiling expectations in blowout-friendly weeks.

On the other side, chalk up a quiet loss for anyone streaming offenses against Atlanta. Jordan Love — our QB14, No. 31 overall, coming off 247 PPR points over 15 games last season (2025) and already battered by this front — is the cautionary tale. His last five 2025 games sat 2.5 points below his average, and this interior duo isn't making life easier.

Bottom line: hold Bijan with confidence, keep rolling London as a starter while watching the usage, and if you play IDP, grab Dexter before your leaguemates clue in. The Falcons just told you they believe this front is for real — your lineup should read the memo too.
