George Kittle Cleared for Week 1 in Australia After Achilles Tear
Eight months after tearing his Achilles, Kittle is off the injury report for Thursday's opener. He posted 162 PPR points in just 11 games in 2025.

Cleared for Week 1 and locked in as a top-tier TE1 in Australia.
- Kittle tore Achilles Jan. 11, 2026 in the playoffs
- 57 catches, 628 yds, 7 TD in 11 games (2025)
- 162 PPR points last season despite missing time
- Bosa also cleared, back from second ACL tear
- Our TE13 heading into 2026 (#102 overall)
George Kittle is back. The 49ers tight end tore his Achilles on Jan. 11, 2026 in San Francisco's wild-card win over Philadelphia, and roughly eight months later he's off the injury report and set to play Thursday night against the Rams in Australia. For a position group thin on reliable weekly upside, that's a green light fantasy managers have been waiting on all summer.
Kittle didn't rush the timeline. He opened training camp on the PUP list, spent about a month ramping up, and was limited in practice all week overseas. But he signaled earlier this week that he'd cleared a hurdle toward playing, and now it's official. Defensive end Nick Bosa, recovering from the second torn ACL of his career, is also off the report and good to go.
Why This Matters for San Francisco
The 49ers have barely sniffed full health in over a year. Kittle went down in the playoffs, while Bosa and Fred Warner both missed the entire postseason after early-2025 injuries — a big reason the divisional-round loss to eventual champ Seattle turned into a blowout. This offseason didn't ease up either: Ricky Pearsall is out for the year with a knee issue, and both Christian McCaffrey and Mike Evans lost chunks of practice time before being cleared for Week 1.
Kittle is entering his age-33 season, and the durability question is fair. But the tape from 2025 was still elite: 57 catches, 628 yards and seven touchdowns in only 11 games. That translated to 162 PPR points last season (2025) — enough to sit as our TE13 and #102 overall for 2026 even after the injury and the age flag.
The Fantasy Fallout
The Pearsall injury actually raises Kittle's floor. With one fewer target-earner in the passing game and McCaffrey (our RB1, 417 PPR points in 2025) commanding attention out of the backfield, Kittle should see plenty of high-value looks. Mike Evans, our WR74 after a 30-catch, 85-point 2025, is more of a boom-or-bust dart than a security blanket.
Bottom line: start Kittle with confidence in Week 1. A ramped-up return doesn't scream 'monster snap count,' so temper the ceiling expectations for one game — but as a locked-in TE1 with red-zone equity in a banged-up receiving corps, there's no reason to sit him. If a nervous manager in your league is dangling him cheap on Achilles worry, that's a buy-low worth a call.
