Kamara's Knee Puts Saints Backfield in Limbo for Week 1
Alvin Kamara is a limited practice participant with a knee issue, and coach Kellen Moore says his Sunday status is up in the air. Here's what it means for your Week 1 lineup.

Limited Wednesday and status unclear — track Friday's designation closely.
- Kamara limited Wed with knee; coach says Sunday up in air
- Kamara: our RB45, #193 overall entering 2026
- Estime (thigh) DNP Wednesday — RB69 in our ranks
- Cameron Jordan (hamstring) ruled out by Kellen Moore
- Kamara last 5 games of 2025: -2.9 FPTS/G vs avg
The Saints opened Week 1 injury week with their two longest-tenured players on the report, and one of them matters a lot for your fantasy roster. Alvin Kamara popped up as a limited participant with a knee issue on Wednesday, and coach Kellen Moore said Kamara's availability for Sunday is genuinely uncertain. That's not the language you want to hear about your projected RB, especially in Week 1.
Kamara enters 2026 as our No. 193 overall player and RB45 — a reflection of a fading 2025. Across 11 games last season he ran for 471 yards and a touchdown while adding 33 catches for 186 yards, good for 101 PPR points, and his final five contests trended the wrong way at -2.9 fantasy points per game below his season average. A knee question mark on top of that trajectory is exactly the kind of thing that sinks a flex spot.
The Backfield Behind Him
Complicating matters: the obvious handcuff isn't healthy either. Audric Estime didn't practice at all Wednesday with a thigh injury. Estime sits at RB69 in our ranks (No. 309 overall) and managed just 48 PPR points on 198 rushing yards over seven games in 2025, though he was quietly trending up — plus-2.7 fantasy points per game over his last five. If both he and Kamara are limited into the weekend, New Orleans' backfield picture gets murky fast.
The Saints also confirmed a loss elsewhere: edge rusher Cameron Jordan won't play after picking up a hamstring injury last month, per Moore. Tight end Oscar Delp (hamstring) was another Wednesday DNP. None of that moves the fantasy needle like the running back situation, but it underscores that New Orleans is nicked up heading into the opener.
For fantasy managers, this is a watch-and-wait situation with a hard deadline. Kamara being limited on Wednesday isn't a death sentence — plenty of veterans manage their practice reps — but the coach openly flagging his Sunday status is a yellow light. Don't cut him, but don't lock him in either.
The move: hold Kamara through Friday and treat his game designation as the tiebreaker. If he's questionable or worse, have a plan B ready, because Estime's own thigh issue means the backup gig isn't a clean bet if you're streaming. Check the final injury report before you set your lineup, not after.
