Mahomes, Jackson and Burrow: Which AFC QBs Bounce Back in 2026?
Three star quarterbacks missed the 2025 playoffs. The Chiefs went 6-11, the Ravens 8-9, and Vegas already has Baltimore at -390 to return in 2026.

Healthy Jackson under a new OC is a top-tier QB1 discount right now.
- Chiefs 6-11: worst record of the Reid era since 2013
- Jackson: 10.7% sack rate in 2025, 2nd-worst in NFL
- Ravens sit at -390 to make the 2026 playoffs
- Burrow: 35 of 51 possible games played last 3 years
- KC RBs had 20 explosive runs over 2 years, fewest in NFL
The 2025 AFC playoffs happened without Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow — a trio that combined to miss the tournament while the Patriots reached a Super Bowl one year after a 13-loss season. Kansas City finished 6-11, its worst mark not just of the Mahomes era but of Andy Reid's entire run dating to 2013. Baltimore went 8-9. Cincinnati went 6-11. Three of the AFC's marquee franchises, all watching from home.
The good news for fantasy managers: the market expects a rebound. The Ravens carry the second-shortest playoff odds in the league at -390, the Chiefs sit at -205, and the Bengals check in at -200. But odds and roster reality don't always align, and each of these three offenses comes with a very different risk profile heading into 2026.
Kansas City's Half-Rebound
Mahomes is expected to be ready for Week 1, and even during KC's relative offensive dip he ranked seventh in both passing success rate and EPA per play over the past two seasons. The ground game gets a real jolt too: Kenneth Walker III, who posted 22 explosive rushes (12+ yards) by himself last year, joins a backfield that managed just 20 as a unit over two seasons. That's a genuine upgrade for the run game and, indirectly, for Mahomes.
The catch is the receiver room and a defense gutted by turnover — Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson and others are gone, with No. 6 pick Mansoor Delane leaning on a thinner secondary. Expect a return to the playoffs, but not the ceiling KC managers got used to.
Baltimore Is the Real Buy
Jackson's 2025 was wrecked by injury from Week 4 on. His 10.7% sack rate was the second-worst in the NFL and miles off his 4.6% in 2024, and his rushing dropped to 26.8 yards per game — less than half his prior average. Now John Harbaugh is out, Jesse Minter is in, and there's a new OC in Declan Doyle. Worth noting: Jackson has won MVP every single time he's gotten a new coordinator. Add Trey Hendrickson to the pass rush and this is a top-tier contender if the health holds.
Burrow is the trickier bet. He's played 35 of a possible 51 games over three years, and Cincinnati is 5-11 without him. He managed just 135 PPR points in eight games last season (2025) but trended up, averaging +3.1 fantasy points over his final five. The offense is elite when he's upright — the question is whether new additions like Dexter Lawrence and Jonathan Allen lift a defense that's cost this team too many 30-point losses.
The fantasy read: buy low on Lamar Jackson now, before a healthy season and new coordinator reset his price back to elite QB1 territory. Mahomes is a safe hold — draft him as a mid-range QB1 and enjoy the Walker-fueled floor without paying for a ceiling that may not return. Burrow (#130 overall, QB31 off his injury-shortened 2025) is a calculated gamble worth taking at his depressed cost, but only if you've handcuffed the pick with QB insurance.
