Mike Evans

Encouraging signs for Sunday, but confirm practice status before locking him in.

Key numbers
  • Evans missed Thursday practice, battling rib injury
  • Ran on sideline in full uniform, spoke to media
  • Evans has 17 rec, 213 yds, 2 TD in 4 games (2026)
  • 49ers released WR Dante Pettis
  • McCaffrey, T. Williams, Greenlaw returned full Thursday

The 49ers' Thursday injury report carried one name fantasy managers will squint at: Mike Evans sat out practice as he works through a rib injury. He's logged 17 catches for 213 yards and two touchdowns across four games this season (2026), good for 50 PPR points — WR74 by our rankings, which tells you he's been more of a bye-week patch than a weekly lock.

Before you panic, read the body language. Evans ran on the sideline in full uniform and spoke to reporters in the locker room — both typically the tell-tale signs of a player trending toward playing Sunday. Calling a missed Thursday a "setback" would be generous. It's a maintenance day worth monitoring, nothing more at this stage.

The Rest of the Report

There was genuinely good news elsewhere. Trent Williams, Dre Greenlaw and Christian McCaffrey all returned in full after their standard Wednesday rest. McCaffrey — our No. 1 RB and No. 1 overall — has been a cheat code again, piling up 74 PPR points on 218 rushing yards, four rushing scores and 16 catches through four games (2026). Running back Kaelon Black also practiced in full after an illness knocked him out Wednesday.

Not everyone's healthy, though. Nick Bosa, Marques Sigle, Kyle Juszczyk and James Thompson all missed practice, with Bosa spotted working off to the side — a return before the bye isn't off the table. Mykel Williams was limited for a second straight day, and Upton Stout practiced in a non-contact jersey, listed as limited.

The roster churn: San Francisco released wideout Dante Pettis. He'd managed just nine catches for 127 yards and no touchdowns across eight games last season (2025), 20 PPR points total. He was WR29 and No. 66 in our rankings but hadn't carried fantasy weight in a while, so this is a non-event for lineups.

The Fantasy Call

On Evans, the move is to watch, not scramble. The uniform-and-media combo usually points toward availability, but confirm his Friday participation before you commit a starting slot — he's a flex-at-best piece anyway at WR74. McCaffrey needs no discussion: slot him in and move on. And if you're still rostering Pettis for some reason, that spot is officially free.
