Jaylin Noel

Turf toe costs him a month-plus; no roster-worthy value until he's back.

Key numbers
  • Noel on IR, out at least 4 weeks (turf toe)
  • 19 rec, 331 yds, 2 TD in 7 games this year
  • Demercado claimed off waivers from Cowboys
  • Demercado: 5 carries, 15 yds in 2 Dallas games
  • Noel ranks #37 WR, 67 PPR pts in 2026 (actual)

The Texans just thinned out an already banged-up receiver room. Houston placed second-year wideout Jaylin Noel on injured reserve with turf toe, an injury the team expects to cost him at least four weeks. That's a minimum, and turf toe has a nasty habit of lingering longer than the initial timeline suggests.

Noel, 24, was quietly productive before the setback: 19 catches for 331 yards and two touchdowns across seven games in 2026. That's already a clear step up from his rookie line of 26 grabs for 292 yards and two scores over all 17 games last season. He was trending in the right direction right up until the toe sidelined him.

The Replacement

To fill the open spot, Houston claimed running back Emari Demercado off waivers after Dallas cut him Tuesday. If that name feels familiar, it's because Demercado has been on a carousel — the Cowboys claimed him from the Chiefs on Aug. 31, waived him Oct. 8, re-signed him, then cut him again. He touched the ball five times for 15 yards in two Dallas appearances.

There's a bit more on his résumé than that, though. Over three seasons with the Cardinals, Demercado logged 131 carries for 834 yards and three touchdowns in 40 games, plus 50 catches for 324 yards and a score. He's a depth add and special-teams body, not a fantasy mover — he sits at RB #62 in our rankings with just 2 PPR points this season (2026, actual).

The Fantasy Fallout

For Noel managers, this is an easy call in most formats. He carried a 2026 line of 67 PPR points through seven games and sat at WR #37 in our rankings — rosterable in deeper leagues, but not someone you hold a bench spot for while he misses a month-plus. Drop him if you need the roster flexibility; stash only in the deepest dynasty setups where his upside still intrigues.

Demercado, meanwhile, is a waiver-wire footnote. He's worth nothing in standard leagues and barely a monitor in deep ones until Houston's backfield situation changes. Watch how the Texans spread the passing-game volume Noel leaves behind — that redistribution matters far more for your lineup than anything Demercado does.
