The Saints just committed to Chris Olave for the long haul, agreeing to a four-year extension worth a base value of up to $132 million, per a person familiar with the talks. That works out to a $33 million average annual value — good enough to tie DK Metcalf for the sixth-highest AAV among NFL receivers. Not bad for a 26-year-old coming off the best season of his career.

And it was a genuine breakout by the numbers. In 2025 Olave posted career highs across the board: 100 catches, 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns over 16 games, worth 270 PPR points on our board. That production has him sitting at WR6 and #27 overall, and his last five games ran +3.9 fantasy points above his season average — the arrow was pointing up when the season closed.

This is Olave's fourth season and his third 1,000-yard campaign, which tells you most of what you need to know. Since New Orleans took him in the first round in 2022, he's averaged 90 catches, 1,152 yards and six scores per 17 games. Steady is the word. He's now the clear No. 1 target for second-year quarterback Tyler Shough, and the front office is building around him with 2026 first-rounder Jordyn Tyson in the fold.

The concussions are impossible to ignore. Olave has suffered four known head injuries in the NFL, and 11 of his 13 career missed games trace back to them. He took two in a three-week window during 2024, missed nine games, and later admitted he weighed walking away from the game entirely. He kept playing, and 2025 was mostly clean — his only absence came from a blood clot discovered in his lung before Week 18.

So the durability question is real, but it's the same question we've been discounting for a couple of seasons now. He played 16 games in 2025 and delivered a top-six fantasy season. The team clearly ran its own medical math before writing a nine-figure check.
