Cowboys-Giants a Coin Flip in Week 1: Why the Survivor Model Fades Dak

Survivor-pool players love a chalky home favorite, and on paper Dallas fits the bill — the Cowboys open Week 1 as -2.5 favorites and -155 on the money line against the Giants. But the projection model that's up well over $7,000 for $100 bettors since inception, and riding a 53-37 run on top-rated picks since 2024, is waving people off. It projects New York to win 47% of the time, essentially a coin flip in what it calls a one-point game.
The reasons are baked into recent history. Dallas went just 2-4 in its last six Week 1 games and collapsed down the stretch in 2025, dropping four of its final five. Meanwhile the Giants — 4-13 a year ago — brought in John Harbaugh to run a new staff and have second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart, who threw for 2,272 yards with 15 touchdowns and five picks across 14 games as a rookie.
What It Means Under Center
None of this dents Dak Prescott's fantasy value — if anything, a tight game helps. Prescott sits at QB6 and No. 12 overall in our rankings after a monster 2025 (17 games): 4,552 passing yards, 30 touchdowns and zero interceptions for 330 PPR points. The one caution flag is his form line — he's been running 4.8 fantasy points below his season average over his last five. A close, high-leverage matchup should keep the ball in his hands.
Dart is the more interesting fantasy chip here. He's only our QB16 (No. 36 overall), but the 487 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns he logged in 2025 give him a floor that pure pocket passers can't touch. In a game the model sees as a dead heat, his legs are exactly the kind of asset that turns a matchup into a QB1 week.
The Nabers Wrinkle
The wild card is Malik Nabers, who's working back from a knee injury and remains unconfirmed for Week 1. He's unranked for a reason — he played just four games in 2025 (18 catches, 271 yards, 2 TD, 57 PPR points). If he suits up, Dart's ceiling jumps and Dallas's coverage gets a lot harder; if he sits, temper expectations on both New York pass-catchers.
For fantasy managers: start Prescott without hesitation — the tight spread and Dallas's need to keep throwing make him a comfortable QB1, form slump or not. Dart is a sneaky streaming play thanks to his rushing floor, especially in a projected one-score game. Watch the Nabers reports right up to kickoff; his status swings the passing-game math for both sides. And if you're playing survivor, this is the game to steer around, not toward.
