Michael Penix Jr. Rib Injury Clouds Falcons' Week 6 Plan vs. Bears
Penix got knocked out of a 30-23 OT loss to Baltimore, but the injury isn't considered serious — his Sunday status hinges on this week's practice.

Not serious, but no timeline yet — watch Falcons practice reports all week.
- Penix hurt ribs late in 30-23 OT loss to Ravens
- Injury not considered serious, per ESPN
- Falcons used 4 different QBs already in 2026
- Atlanta 2-3; faces 3-2 Bears Sunday
- London: 27 rec, 488 yds, 76 PPR pts in 2026 (5 gm)
Michael Penix Jr.'s star-crossed career added another chapter Sunday night. The Falcons quarterback took a hard shot to his right ribs from Baltimore's Tavius Robinson late in regulation, and while he initially returned, he couldn't take the field for overtime of a 30-23 loss to the Ravens. Per ESPN, the injury isn't considered serious and Penix could suit up Sunday against the Bears — but Atlanta is playing it safe and will monitor his practice reps before committing.
The sequence stung. Penix missed just one snap after the hit, came back to throw a ball away under pressure, then watched from the sideline with a towel over his head as Kyle Hamilton picked off Tua Tagovailoa to end it. Penix said afterward he tried some throws on the sideline but didn't feel he could give the team what it needed through the pain, and that the discomfort only got worse as he sat in the cold waiting.
Why This Matters for Atlanta
Penix has been the difference-maker in an otherwise chaotic season. The Falcons have already trotted out four quarterbacks — Penix, Tagovailoa, Cooper Rush (5 PPR pts across two 2026 starts) and Jack Strand (2 PPR pts in his lone 2026 appearance). Rush's four interceptions in two games tell you everything about life without Penix. His downfield arm is what unlocks the whole offense, and head coach Kevin Stefanski said the team needs more imaging before setting any timeline.
The ripple hits the fantasy relevant guys hard. Drake London has quietly piled up 27 catches for 488 yards and 76 PPR points through five 2026 games, good for WR16 in our rankings (No. 52 overall). Bijan Robinson — our RB4 and No. 10 overall — has 580 rushing yards, five total touchdowns and 121 PPR points. Both profiles lean on Penix stretching defenses vertical. A Tagovailoa-led offense is a notable downgrade for London's ceiling in particular.
The Fantasy Call
Encouragingly, Penix talking to reporters and vowing he'll be ready — he pointedly noted he's sat out enough in his career — is a positive sign for Week 6. If you roster him, don't cut him over a non-serious rib issue; this is a classic wait-and-see. The bigger action item is on London and Robinson managers: you're starting both regardless, but temper London's projection slightly until Penix's status firms up. Watch Wednesday and Thursday practice reports, and if Penix is limited or out, pivot your streaming decisions accordingly before Sunday's matchup with the 3-2 Bears.
