Minor hamstring, but a two-man committee caps his ceiling.

Key numbers
  • White tweaked hamstring in Dolphins joint practice
  • Injury not considered serious or long-term
  • Split backfield expected with Croskey-Merritt
  • White: 143 PPR pts in 2025 (actual, 17 games)
  • Croskey-Merritt: 140 PPR pts in 2025 (actual)

Rachaad White tweaked his hamstring during Washington's joint practice with the Dolphins, though the good news arrived almost immediately: the injury isn't considered serious or long-term. White even got a workout in before Friday's preseason game, which tells you the Commanders aren't treating this like anything more than a camp bump.

That matters because White signed with Washington this offseason after four years in Tampa Bay, where the 2022 third-round pick started 48 of 67 games. His durability résumé is clean — he missed just one regular-season game in his career, and it was a hamstring issue back in 2024. So this is familiar territory, and not the alarming kind.

The Backfield Math

The bigger story for fantasy purposes isn't the hamstring — it's the committee. White is expected to form a 1-2 punch with Jacory Croskey-Merritt, and the 2025 numbers show why that's a genuine timeshare rather than a clear pecking order. White posted 572 rushing yards, four scores and 40 catches for 218 yards last season (2025, actual, 17 games), good for 143 PPR points.

Croskey-Merritt wasn't far behind. He racked up 805 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground plus nine grabs for 68 yards in 2025 (actual, 17 games), landing at 140 PPR points. So you've got two backs who finished within three points of each other over a full season, now sharing one backfield. That's a headache, not an opportunity.

The form arrows point in opposite directions, too. White's last five games ran 2.8 fantasy points below his season average, while Croskey-Merritt trended up by 2.3 over his final five. Neither profile screams workhorse, and the ranks reflect it: White sits at RB30 (#116 overall) in our model, with Croskey-Merritt right behind at RB32 (#118).

For fantasy managers, this is a wait-and-see situation. The hamstring shouldn't cost White regular-season time, but the committee ceiling is the real drag on his value. Draft him as a flex-caliber depth piece, not a locked-in starter, and keep tabs on how the touch split shakes out in the final preseason reps. If Croskey-Merritt's late-2025 momentum carries into camp, White's RB30 tag could start slipping.
