Tyler Shough Shrugs Off Hand Injury, But the Saints Have Bigger Worries

Shough was limited Wednesday with a wrapped left hand, but the Saints' real fantasy concern is a loaded DNP list headed by Kamara and Olave.

Chris Olave

Veteran rest day, not an injury — he's a lock when he suits up.

Key numbers
  • Shough limited Wed with wrapped left hand
  • Kamara (back) and Olave (rest) both DNP
  • Olave: 491 yds, 1 TD through 4 games (2026)
  • Kamara: 35 PPR pts in 3 games (2026)
  • Short week has Shough sore but 'not limited'

The headline on Wednesday's Saints injury report was Tyler Shough with a wrapped left hand, tagged as limited in practice. But if you're setting a fantasy lineup, that's the least of your concerns. Shough and head coach Kellen Moore both waved it off — the quarterback said he banged it up in the game, called it nothing more than normal bumps and bruises, and insisted the soreness from a short week won't limit him.

The names that should actually move your needle are the ones who didn't practice at all. Alvin Kamara (back) and Chris Olave (rest) headlined the DNP group, alongside WR Barion Brown (thigh) and defensive pieces Kaden Elliss and Anfernee Jennings. On a short week, a Wednesday DNP carries less weight than usual — but it still demands your attention before lock.

What the DNPs Really Mean

Olave's 'rest' designation is the friendliest word on the sheet. He's been the Saints' clear No. 1, posting 35 catches for 491 yards and a touchdown across four games this season (2026) — good for 90 PPR points and our WR6 ranking (No. 27 overall). A scheduled breather on a compressed week isn't an injury flag. Treat him as a start unless something changes Thursday or Friday.

Kamara is the trickier read. A back injury for a 31-year-old workhorse is never a shrug-off situation, and his production has already been underwhelming — 35 PPR points through three games (2026), with our model slotting him at RB45 and No. 193 overall. If the back lingers into Thursday's report, his floor craters fast given how pass-leaning this offense has looked.

The rest of the list is depth-chart noise for most rosters. Noah Fant (abdomen) was limited and remains a touchdown-dependent dart throw — three scores but just 66 yards on eight catches this season (2026), our TE34. Brown has contributed nothing fantasy-relevant (0 PPR points), so his thigh is a non-issue in your lineup.

Bottom line: Shough's hand is a nothing-burger, and Olave's rest day shouldn't scare you — keep him in your lineup. Kamara is the one to babysit. If his back keeps him sidelined or limited through Friday, pivot to a cleaner option; this hasn't been the Kamara you drafted anyway.
